A biblical plant with a cinnamon-camphor scent, known in Poland since the Tatar invasions.
Magical properties
Calamus is one of the biblical plants — mentioned as "sweet cane," it was said, alongside myrrh, cinnamon, and cassia, to be an ingredient of the anointing oil. Among many Native American tribes of North America, calamus was highly valued and widely used as a remedy for nearly every ailment.

Sage

The name comes from the Latin "salvare" — to heal, to save. One of the most widely used herbal remedies.
Magical properties
In ancient Rome, sage was used as a remedy for snake bites, dementia, and as a fertility booster, as it was considered an aphrodisiac. In Polish folk beliefs, sage was an ingredient of the "vinegar of the four thieves" — a specific herbal mixture said to protect against plague.

Magical properties
Marigold is a natural insect repellent — its intense scent repels pests, which is why it is often planted in vegetable gardens. For early Christians, marigold had special significance — the golden color of its petals was called "Mary's gold" and was used in ceremonies and church decorations.

Lavender

Its name comes from the Latin "lavo, lavare" — to wash, to bathe. Known as an ingredient of cleansing agents since antiquity.
Magical properties
Father Krzysztof Kluk, a Polish naturalist, in his 1778 book described the use of lavender for "dizziness, paralysis, cramps, and trembling of the limbs," as well as the practice of adding a few drops of lavender oil to bread so it would not go moldy or stale. For centuries it was believed that lavender had magical properties. Its scent was said to ensure peaceful or prophetic dreams and to attract men. Burning incense with lavender was said to bring luck, joy, harmony, and accord.
